ICP Opens Doors Internationally for Peacemakers
To evolve from violence to peace is an essential mission of many Cities of Peace in areas of systemic violence around the globe. Chilpanchinco, Zihuatanejo, Petatlán, and Benítez are Cities of Peace in Guerrero State, Mexico that are taking a positive approach to counteract recent and historic violence. For three years, International Cities of Peace (ICP) has been the inviting organization for delegations from Mexico to attend the United Nations in September for Peace Day. Tourism and prosperity flourishes when peace is strong.
Each International City of Peace in Guerrero has a Liaison, or peace leader, who provides two-way communication between the community and the association of International Cities of Peace. Guerrero is not yet a State of Peace because it does not have a Peace “department” — a commission, ministry or such — at the State level, but peace leaders in the State are working on that possibility.
