Brady at the United Nations!
Jennifer Brady of Patchogue, Long Island, New York is the 2023 designate as the International Cities of Peace Representative to United Nations headquarters.
Ms. Jennifer Cotter Brady, a resident and co-leader since 2021 of the Patchogue, New York’s City of Peace Initiative, has accepted the position of International Cities of Peace Representative to the United Nations. In her position, Ms. Brady will have a grounds pass to the U.N. headquarters in New York in order to attend, participate in, and hold events related to community and global peacebuilding.
In 2017, International Cities of Peace achieved Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the U.N. body for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). This status and Ms. Brady’s designation as ICP Representative opens opportunities to make a significant impact on issues around peace and justice, including human rights, the environment, democracy and education with particular emphasis on community actions for children and women at risk.
Ms. Brady has an extensive background and service in her community and beyond. She serves as the Chair of the Patchogue Peace Project as a New York-based, grassroots initiative involving local residents, schools, government, businesses and organizations. In this position, she facilitates community partnerships to initiate and support educational, advocacy, and collaborative efforts that foster a culture of peace. She is also developing a sister city network to unite peacebuilding efforts across Long Island.
In addition, Ms. Brady has been actively engaged in violence prevention, community building, and other peacemaking efforts for the past 25 years. In 2001, she cofounded National Youth Violence Prevention Week, a campaign now adopted by Sandy Hook Promise, that engages all sectors from the community to work hand-in-hand with youth to raise awareness and collaboratively develop violence prevention programs and solutions. Ms. Brady also created an award-winning online magazine, GuidanceChannel.com, focusing on social, emotional, and educational issues facing K-12 students.
International Cities of Peace is an association of self-established member Cities of Peace dedicated to empowering peace leaders in communities around the globe. The not-for-profit organization has members in nearly 400 Cities in over 70 countries on six continents. International Cities of Peace defines peace as the consensus values of safety, prosperity, and quality of life for all in the community.
