Rotarianism for International Cities of Peace

Rotary Club of Trichur West

Thrissur’s “unique blend of Hindu, Christian, and Muslim traditions,” writes Rotarian Rahul Chaly, “reflects a deep-rooted ethos of mutual respect, cultural exchange, and shared celebrations.” Rahul served as President of the Rotary Club of Trichur West, which recently was designated as a Rotary Peacebuilder Club.

“The club’s impactful work extends beyond local efforts; it has successfully completed three Global Grant Projects in Thrissur. These international collaborations have had a transformative effect on the community, further cementing the clubโ€™s role as a key driver of positive change.” Though Peace is just one of Rotary International’s areas of focus, Clubs like Trichur West are driving the global Rotary toward its essential goal of Positive Peace.

Satyagraha History

“Thrissur District can claim the honour of having been in the forefront of the country-wide movement for temple entry and abolition of untouchability. The famous Guruvayur Satyagraha is a memorable episode in the history of the national movement.” ย (https://thrissur.nic.in/en/history/)

“The Guruvayur Temple Entry Satyagraha was launched by the Indian National Congress in the Thrissur district of Kerala in 1931, in an effort to promote social reforms and eliminate social discrimination and untouchability. K. Kelappanโ€™s historic twelve-day fast was crucial in this struggle and showed his great commitment to the cause.” (https://amritmahotsav.nic.in/district-reopsitory-detail.htm?15001)
