Ibadan, Nigeria: City of Peace

 

We welcome Olaleye Doyin Sunshine and her colleagues who have established Ibadan, Nigeria as a city of peace. She is an award-winning poet and is well-connected to the arts and film community, through which she and her group will create strategies for creating a culture of peace in Ibadan and beyond.

VISION

My idea for obtaining peace is mainly based on advocacy through words and sublime art.  As we know that words when well presented have the strong capacity to generate empathy and empathy is all that is needed to create peace.

In simpler words, I aim to propagate peace through poetry, both spoken and written, and creative writing broadcasted to the world via various means of media.

MISSION

Creating peace in our community and world would be done by series of strategies put together by the leadership and as many that would join the organization.

And as time goes by, new ideas on how to further and better create peace would unfold.

ABOUT OLALEYE DOYIN SUNSHINE

Olaleye Doyin Sunshine is an Award-winning Nigerian Poet, Writer, Journalist, Microbiologist and a lover of Arts. She became a member and was appointed the chief representative of World Nation Writers’ Union in Nigeria 2017. Doyin was also appointed the Squire of the World Union of Poets by the Italian Knight and the World President of World Union of Poets, Silvano Bortolazzi, 2017.

  • She was awarded the certificate of honour by Immagine & Poesia in Italy 2016, and was published in Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) 2016 Review, Abuja.
  • Published in World Anthology of poetry 2016 in Taiwan;
  • Appointed Nigerian Ambassador for A.New Home For Africa 2016 by Nibstears poetry cave,
  • Appointed the Poets In Nigeria Lead Representative in Ibadan, Oyo state 2016.

Doyin is also a member of international groups and organizations like Words, Rhymes and.Rhythm, Enigmatic creativity (EGC), Nibstears, Poets In Nigeria (PIN), Society of Young Nigerian.Writers, Muse For Peace Foundation, etc.

As a writer, Doyin has participated, won and certified in many national and international.contests – received certificate of participation at the Poetography contest on the theme of healing the planet through sublime art 2016 in India.

She received a Certificate of Excellence from Muse For Peace.Foundation 2016 as well as a Certificate of participation at Society of Young Nigerian Writers Creative writing workshop in 2016.

Her works have been featured in international anthologies, journals, and magazines both in print and online such as Muse for World Peace Anthology – edition 2, Immagine & Poesia Volume 3, to mention but few.

As a Peace advocate; Doyin is the General Secretary of Muse for Peace Foundation, a nonprofit organization established towards building peaceful relationship among people of all ages, culture and races; starting from individual.to the global communities through Arts, Education, and Humanitarian Services.

Doyin is the model of an online movement; Nibstears Poetry Cave Yoruba Poetry. She recently published an Anthology of poems with Amazon “The Muse”, coauthored alongside three other African poets.

ABOUT IBADAN, NIGERIA (from Wikipedia)

Ibadan is the capital of Oyo State, Nigeria and the most populous city in the state with a population of over 3 million. It is the third most populous city in Nigeria, after Lagos and Kano; it is the country’s largest city by geographical area. At the time of Nigeria’s independence in 1960, Ibadan was the largest and most populous city in the country, and the second most populous in Africa after Cairo.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria is a federal republic in West Africa, bordering Benin in the west, Chad and Cameroon in the east, and Niger in the north. Its coast in the south lies on the Gulf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean. It comprises 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, where the capital, Abuja is located. Nigeria is officially a democratic secular country.

Ibadan is located in south-western Nigeria, 128 km inland northeast of Lagos and 530 km southwest of Abuja, the federal capital, and is a prominent transit point between the coastal region and the areas in the hinterland of the country. Ibadan had been the centre of administration of the old Western Region since the days of the British colonial rule, and parts of the city’s ancient protective walls still stand to this day. The principal inhabitants of the city are the Yorubas, as well as various communities from other parts of the country.
