Title of Project
Masai Mara Peace Garden Kenya
One to Two Sentence Program Vision
The project aims to cultivate the culture of peace, highlight the responsibility to provide the opportunity for prosperity, peace and partnership through the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development; to talk about peace to bolster concensus building and social cohesion, and foster peacebuilding campaigns that counter disinformation and misinformation; and, to discuss and promote peace and tolerance in Masai Mara Kenya, and how it can be emulated in other areas.
Descriptions of Challenges
– Lack of young peacebuilders to advance positive change in themselves, their communities and beyond and spearhead peace building initiatives in conflict prone areas of the African Rift Valley; and need for their training.
– Relationships have been fractured by frequent conflicts, and the need for support to rebuild.
– professionals lack the requisite skills and techniques for long term conflict prevention and management, and therefore such training is needed.
– Local communities and leaders lack a deeper understanding and knowledge of the issues driving their conflicts, and quality conflict management training is lacking.
– There is a lack of research data among local communities into the causes of violence
Longer Project Description
The project was initiated for the purpose of educating in nonviolence and other forms of peace-making. This will be achieved by undertaking activities for awareness of Peace through the setting up of two programs: a community garden for peace, and and clean up days to keep the game park clean, green and liveable.
First Project Steps
– Preparing young peacebuilders to spearhead peace initiatives in conflict areas through training.
– Support communities to rebuild relationships that have been fractured through training peacebuilding professionals, leaders and local communities.
– Conducting empirical research among local communities into the causes of violence.
– Working with all to ensure everyone are part of the long-term solution to preventing conflict and engaging them in problem solving workshops.
– Promoting the construction and development of an inter-ethnic peace Garden with, and among the different communities in conflict.
– Conducting peace education in schools and public spaces in conflict environments, aimed at deligitimising the use of force in solving conflicts and thus, fostering a culture of peace.

The Maasai tribe living in and around Masai Mara Game Reserve, Rift Valley region in Kenya: elders, custodians of sacred sites, cultural practitioners, seed curators, herbalists, hunters, beekeepers, children, youth and women, storytellers of peace, teachers, volunteers, collaborators community members and leaders of International Cities of Peace in Africa.
Follow-up Phase II Steps
– The creation of a community garden, construction of windmills for generation/saving of water and energy, green farms, greenhouses.
– Water conservation, rational use of energy, preservation of water towers/forests, mitigation of climate change, self-sufficiency, autonomy (which concerns the whole garden and community), autonomy and improvement of health, livelihoods and conditions.
