CASE STUDY: RESPECT AND MUTUAL COLLABORATION

A village in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement, a camp with 180,000 souls who have fled to southern Uganda since 1958 — became the first Refugee Camp City of Peace. Why? Because, despite our humanity, refugee camps have become Cities in themselves. With refugees from 12 countries, Nakivale has two things going for it. One, a palpable, vivid need. Two, young refugees who have been fired with the flame of activism for peace.

Two years ago, International Cities of Peace connected Mr. Norbert Byambo, who fled to Sangano in Nakivale when just a teen, with Mr. Kjeld Lanng, one of the leaders of our 400th City of Peace in Aalborg, Denmark. The relationship between the citizens of Aalborg and Sangano has become a case study of the ICP City-to-City Collaboration program.

Respect is the key. Mutual friendship, mutual support, mutual vision for the future. A small part of what they have been able to accomplish — short term goals with a long-range vision of creating the first Refugee Settlement Cities of Peace initiative — is extraordinary. A glimpse can be had with our latest video from the ICP Corporate Social Responsibility program, with which many corporations are paying particular attention. Take a view here!

Multiple Strategies, One Program

A Positive Role in the Marketplace

Today, organizations are tasked with additional criteria for business success. New operational models such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the United Nations, as well as the Global Compact Reporting (COP) and other ratings standards urge businesses to engage as a positive force for the local and global community.

  • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
  • U.N. Global Compact Reporting (COP)
  • Sustainable Growth Strategy (SGS)
  • Governance & Environment Standards

Vetted volunteers, such as these members of the ICP Team in Ethiopia, are ready and waiting for your company to make a profound impact for humanity. Worthy projects are available in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Ocieania.

Chair of the Board J. Frederick Arment issues an invitation for Corporations, both for-profit and not-for-profit, to engage in worthy “shovel-ready” projects near and far.

David Wick, ICP Facilitator for the Corporate Sustainability Program as well as President of Pathways for Peace and Past President of the Rotary E-Club for World Peace, offers reason why International Cities of Peace makes a safe, effective partner for engaging in local and global Social Responsibility initiatives.
